Most people do not know that they have had a CMV infection because it usually causes no symptoms. Once a person is infected with CMV, the virus stays in their body for life. WebIf Guthrie cards were not destroyed at the age of 5 years and we were able to test the Guthrie cards for congenital cytomegalovirus infection for children older than 5 years, on those children/young adults who developed a hearing loss or were investigated for a hearing loss at an older age, they would benefit from this information.
